The building that houses this restaurant offers rustic, hip, industrial decor and has special touches in every corner creating a memorable experience. Upon entering, the front of the building there is a full service bar area located to the left with stool seating. The host/hostess stand is centrally located and proudly displays apparel available with the Farmhouse Tacos logo. There are both tables and booth type seating throughout the restaurant that can accommodate a larger group dining together. The lighting was particularly interesting, as it was forged from industrial pipes that fit the ambiance perfectly.
The garage style doors were open to the patio seating, allowing in sunshine and a nice breeze to make its way through the restaurant on this particularly pleasant afternoon.
Since we visited on a weather perfect day, there were numerous patrons that were stopping by for a break from cycling the Swamp Rabbit Trail or those walking and perusing the shops located in Downtown Travelers Rest. The outdoor patio seating proved to be the first choice of many and created a lively and enjoyable atmosphere.
Now, on to the food... we were definitely pleased with our selections for brunch and are looking forward to returning for lunch or dinner one day really soon! The Sunday brunch menu is smaller, but the choices are plentiful for a lighter bite. One of the hallmarks of the food offered is that the owners, Chris and Katie Williamson, have made it a priority to place locally sourced food from South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia on every plate served. The quality is evident in each bite... and even in the decor!
Before your selection from the menu arrives, prepare yourself for what could perhaps be one of the most balanced and addictive salsas to have made contact with your palate. The chips that are served alongside are fresh and crisp and the perfect scooping size for devouring every drop of salsa. You may find yourself asking for a second serving, but we can neither confirm nor deny that we may have ordered a third serving!
The menu has an eclectic assortment of tacos for any taste, from the Travelers Rest Hot Chicken taco with cornbread croutons and pickled okra, to the Pan Seared Crab Cakes and Fried Green Tomatoes. The Southern influence in the cooking style is evident and served in a refined manner that will leave you wanting more. You can view the full menu HERE.
At the bar, you will find local brews and other beers on tap, a selection of wines, or maybe even a Margarita or two made to order. The bar even serves flavored moonshines from local distilleries for those that are seeking a bit more adventure from the drink menu.
A list of local farms that provide ingredients for this "farm-to-table" eatery are always posted on the restaurant wall and is much appreciated by customers since it is nice to see how businesses work together to create a thriving, local economy. You will find touches like this that make Farmhouse Tacos a pleasure to dine at, gather for drinks, and experience an overall appreciation for locally owned and sourced restaurants. And, as the conclusion of the menu at this hometown spot states, all things here are... "Made with ♥ in Travelers Rest."
